In Search of Beautiful Things in Seoul
Many of you might already know this, but I have a thing for beautifully crafted objects, from tableware and home décor to stationery and everyday items. The joy and inspiration I derive from these items are magnified when they are displayed in spaces that are as beautiful as they are thoughtfully curated.
Guided by this passion, my travels often center around exploring beautifully designed stores that showcase thoughtful craftsmanship. Below, I've listed some of the stores in Seoul that have particularly inspired me:
1. TWL Shop
One of my favorite stores in Seoul, TWL offers a beautifully curated, almost gallery-like experience. The arrangement of items alone is a form of art, enhanced by seasonal floral displays that elevate the overall aesthetic. Spanning four floors, each level presents its own distinct style and selection, offering a visual feast at every turn.
2. Makefolio
Though compact, Makefolio’s offline store in Seochon boasts an impressive curation of ceramics, fragrances, and lifestyle goods designed to elevate daily life. It prominently features creations from numerous local artists and designers, offering a snapshot of contemporary Korean creativity.
3. White Shop
White Shop is a serene, intimate space run by the Korean lifestyle brand Informalware. I especially love the peaceful ambiance, complemented by views of Inwangsan and Bukaksan mountains. The setting allows you to fully appreciate a thoughtfully selected range of products by various international artists and designers.
4. Horang
Horang is a Korean cutlery brand renowned for its unique design- characterized by distinctive, weighty handles and thoughtfully shaped heads that do not touch the table when placed down. Its newly opened flagship store in Seochon is housed in a meticulously renovated hanok, where every detail is flawless- from exquisite wallpapers crafted in collaboration with Kamisoe to the counter’s striking charred wood design, the display table, and the elegant hanji-paper-lined display cabinet that casts warm, inviting shadows. The entire store is a harmonious blend of artisan craftsmanship, making it a true work of art
5. Delphic
Delphic is known for its tea blends (I personally love Delphic’s Mili Fili- Milky Oolong tea) and teaware. There is also a small showroom in Dosan, but I highly recommend visiting the flagship store in Bukchon. It's spacious, airy, and bathed in natural light, which beautifully highlights their selection. The Bukchon store also features a tea room where you can savor their teas, served in elegant teaware.
